Laurdan is a membrane-permeable fluorescent probe that can be used to monitor lipid membrane dynamics like membrane fluidity and phase states. Laurdan is unique in its ability to differentiate between gel and liquid-crystalline membrane phases- Its emission spectrum shifts due to dipolar relaxation. The absorption for this probe is ~366 nm and the emission is ~440 nm in ordered membranes and ~490 nm in disordered membranes. Laurdan can be used to image lipid rafts, and for live-cell imaging.
CAS Number 74515-25-6
Store At Temperature -20°C, protect from light
Shipping Condition Dry ice
  • High purity
  • Lipid-phase detection through emission spectrum shifts
  • Abs: ~366 nm, Ems: ~440 nm (ordered), ~490 nm (disordered)
  • Monitoring lipid membrane fluidity and phase states
  • Lipid raft visualization
  • Live-cell imaging
