DPPC (1,2-Dipalmitoyl-sn-glycerol-3-Phosphocholine), a variant of phosphatidylcholine, is an amphipathic phospholipid used for gene and drug delivery formulations. DPPC has been shown to have excellent biodegradability and drug encapsulation capacity, and when combined with other lipids has high cellular uptake efficiency, making it ideal for use in liposomal formulations. DPPC is also an integral element of pulmonary surfactants and has a well-defined phase transition temperature. It is widely used to study membrane fluidity, thermotropic behavior, and protein-lipid interactions.
